Since a few weeks I have the Nokia N85 but this is just a temporary phone because my girlfriend gets it and I use it at the moment (thanks!) because I have to wait for my new phone until its released. Here is the N85:

Since last week the MWC (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona is over and all major companies showed what they have coming up for the next few months. I will not go for a next gen iPhone unless I don’t have to jailbreak it to use whatever apps I want so I doubt I would be tempted by an iPhone especially because the other companies have some massive phones coming up.

Here are the three contenders of which one probably ends up in my pocket.

Nokia N97:
After using the N85 (and hating it for the first couple of days) I got used to it and kinda like it now. It gets the job done but I really miss either a touchscreen keyboard or a qwerty keyboard. The N97 is Nokias iPhone Killer and has lots of goodies on board. Up to 48 GB, 16:9 (640 x 360px) touchscreen and the option to use a qwerty keyboard. So far this is my most likely choice. Even though I would love to use Windows Mobile because I like some apps that I used on my old PDA, Symbian gets the job done so it would be ok. Especially after Nokia is polishing the new UI and the widgets and all other modifications for the home screen look good. Another benefit would be that I can use the same Symbian apps on it that my girlfriend uses on the N85 then which might help us to communicate on the go.

Enough talk check the specs and some pics below:

Samsung OmniaHD:
If I would have had to buy a cellphone for myself a few weeks ago I would have bought the Samsung Omnia. But because my girl likes Nokia it had to be a Nokia. Anyway back then I was annoyed with the so so screen resolution of just 240 x 400 pixel. The OmniaHD fixes all the issues I had with the original Omnia (which is still a great phone). It comes with a massive, superbright display, is slim (and that’s one of my problems with the N97), comes with a 8 megapixel camera and can record videos in HD quality (not full HD though). That’s pretty impressive. Unfortunately unlike the original Omnia which had WinMo the OmniaHD runs on Symbian as well which isn’t that bad but if it would be a Windows Mobile phone I would definitely go for it. I have to see how fast I can type on the touchscreen compared to the N97 qwerty because I really want to use these phones to work on and be a bit of a replacement of my netbook.

Sony IDOU:
It also runs on Symbian (argh… no decent Windows Mobile phone coming up except the HTCs with shitty cams) and has a big phat 12 megapixel camera. The Sony cams are really good and because I absolutely enjoy blogging with my phone I consider this device as well. But somehow I don’t think I will get it. The Samsung is probably more what I want and 8 megapixel will get the job done (5 megapixel as well as long as the pic quality is good).

I really can’t wait until they are released. They should all come in the next few months.
